Lower Strings Coach

Robert Goin, Double Bass
An Atlanta native, Mr. Goin has taught Strings in DeKalb County since 1993 and is the lower strings coach for the DeKalb Youth Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Goin has played principal bass for the Georgia Symphony since 1998 and been performing in and around Atlanta since 1977. In addition to his Music Education Certification, he earned a Bachelors and Masters in Double Bass Performance from The University of Georgia. His has studied with Peter Dundon, Milton Masciadri and Milton Masciadri Sr.

Mr. Goin has performed with the orchestras of Macon, Augusta, Columbus, Charleston, Greenville, Hilton Head, Carrollton, Rome, Savannah, Orchestra Atlanta, The Atlanta Pops and The Atlanta Balalaika Orchestra. While in Athens, he was a member of several bands including The Vigilantes of Love. In 1989 Bob performed a summer with Orchestra Symphonique de Porto Allegre, Brazil and in 2002 toured China and Japan with a pops orchestra.

During the summers of 1997, 98 and 99 Mr. Goin studied violin and bass bow making with Reid Hudson at the White River Artisans School in Cotter, Arkansas. His other interests include motorcycles, old cars, camping and hiking, carpentry and home repair.

Bob and his wife Gael live in Stone Mountain with their daughters Tess and Claire and a slew of animals. Their daughter Emily lives in Maine with her husband Ben.
