Come BE the future

Auditions for the the 2024-2025 season are now open for all sections.  The deadline to submit an audition is Tuesday, August 27 2024 at 11:59pm.  There is no cost to audition.  For a detailed calendar of rehearsals and performances please view the members area.  If you are a resident of Dekalb County, Georgia and are interested in becoming a member of the Dekalb Youth Symphony Orchestra, please do the following:

1. Fill out the audition registration form below immediately.  Do not wait until the deadline!
2. Read the Audition requirements below
3. Read and follow the instructions below for audition video submission

Who can audition:

Auditions are open to high school students, and a select few very advanced middle school students for the following instruments:

• Woodwinds: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon
• Brass: French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba
• Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
• Harp
• Percussion
• Piano

Audition music requirements:

Solo:

• All students will play a 2-4 minute excerpt of a standard solo repertoire of their own choosing (movement of a classical concerto, all-state etude, standard classical etude from a collection, or soloist passage from a band or orchestra piece).  
• Percussion will play an excerpt of their choosing on snare drum.

School Ensemble Participation:

Members of Dekalb Youth Symphony Orchestra must also be members in good standing of their school music ensemble.  Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion must be members of their school band.  Strings must be members of their school orchestra.  A letter signed by your school director will be required upon acceptance into DYSO.  If no ensemble exists in your school, then a letter of reference from a private teacher, former music teacher, or other music professional who can speak to your dedication to music must be provided upon acceptance into DYSO.
